The Power of Workspaces

Just like great chefs keep their kitchens clean, professionals should also keep their workspaces organized in order to do their best work. There's obviously no one-size-fits all approach here, but there are a few high level things to consider that can help amplify your productivity.
There is no way around it: you cannot deliver great work if your body doesn't feel great while you're doing it. Do your best to follow the simple guidelines shared by most professionals: keep your feet on the floor or foot rest, make sure your chair supports your spine, and have your monitor or laptop about an arm's length away. If you don't have a desk and chair combo that meets these guidelines, don't hesitate to get creative: place your laptop on a stack of books or shoeboxes, as an example!
Don't underestimate the power of keeping your digital space clean. Carve out time to process your inbox, file away old docs, and digitize any handwritten notes that you want to keep long term. Feeling unorganized in your digital space can stop productivity in it's tracks. If you have trouble keeping your digital space clean, try adopting a habit of making it the first or last thing you do each day.
Staying in your workspace for an entire day is never a good idea. Do your best to stand up at least once an hour, and get outside a few times a day if possible. If you're on a laptop, consider relocating to an different ergonomically friendly space for an hour or so. Or if you have a 1x1 on Zoom, consider taking it as a phone call and walking during that time instead. Your office is a great place to get work done, but remembering to step out once in a while is critical in ensuring you don't start to feel stuck in your space.
